West House Classic Room with Private Hall Bath

W54 - The Southfields Room

The West House is located on Summer Street, one of Salem’s oldest “highways.” In 1669 it was named “a street to the south fields.” Later it was the way to get to a local almshouse and was named appropriately “a street to ye almshouse.” It was also once called the “highway to the mills” and (very descriptively) the “road to Marblehead.” We wouldn’t recommend putting any of this in your GPS. You are on a well-worn path through Salem’s history.
