Day Trips from Salem

A STONE'S THROW ~ (15 minutes)

Beverly: Birthplace of the American Navy, the "Garden City" was settled in 1626 as part of Salem. Enjoy Music Theater, world famous magic shows, art galleries and unique shops.

Marblehead: One of America's major yachting towns, the harbor is a photographer's delight. Hidden among the winding streets of quaint Old Town are interesting historic sites, restaurants, shops and antiques.

A HOP, SKIP AND A JUMP ~ (45 minutes)

Boston: Only 18 miles by car or thirty minutes by commuter rail Boston makes an enjoyable day trip.

Essex: Famous for its 300-year tradition of shipbuilding and clam-harvesting. Today Essex is a major antique center with dozens of shops. Indulge at one of the quaint seafood restaurants.

Gloucester: America's oldest seaport is today an authentic working harbor. The world famous "Man at the Wheel" was commissioned in 1923 in memory of the thousands of fisherman lost at sea.

Lexington & Concord: Site of the first battle of the American Revolution and the "shot heard round the world". These quintessential New England towns are rich in political and literary history.

Newburyport: From Plum Island, the National Seashore with miles of pristine beaches and scenic dunes, to the showy sea captains' homes that line High Street, Newburyport combines beauty and charm. This seaport community also boasts one of the top bird watching sanctuaries in the U.S.

Rockport: Located on the northern tip of beautiful Cape Ann, this once sleepy fishing village was "discovered" by artists shortly after the Civil War. Today it is home to many art galleries, craft shops and artists studios.
